Revision Rhinoplasty, many patients worldwide plan to have Revision Rhinoplasty in Turkey. It is important to listen to the patient’s complaints and expectations in detail before revision rhinoplasty.

While conducting interviews and evaluations before surgery, the patient’s expectations should be realistic. After the preliminary interview, a physical examination is carried out with all the details.

In this examination, the structures within and outside the nose are examined in detail. Especially, the condition of the cartilage reserve is checked.

Because the main element needed in revision rhinoplasties is cartilage. Before the revision rhinoplasty, it is especially important to determine the removed cartilage parts and to reveal the cartilage reserve for the surgery plan. The condition of the nasal skin is also evaluated.

In many of the patients who want to have revision rhinoplasty, there are functional problems as well as aesthetic problems. For this reason, the surgery should be planned both aesthetically and functionally.

After the physical examination, photographs are taken, the patient’s face analysis and computer-aided simulation studies are conducted, and the visual plan of the nose is made.

When can revision rhinoplasty be performed?

The ideal time for revision rhinoplasty to be performed is that at least 1 year has passed since the previous surgery. This 1-year period is necessary for the recovery of the tissues and it affects the success of the revision rhinoplasty to be performed.

How is the size of the revision surgery to be performed determined?

Evaluated from the perspective of the patient, revision rhinoplasty is not more difficult than the first surgery. The difficulty of the surgery, rather concerns the surgeon who will perform the surgery.

Revision rhinoplasty is a more complex, somewhat more difficult procedure for the surgeon than primary rhinoplasty. Because revision rhinoplasty has differences compared to the primary surgery. These differences are;

In revision rhinoplasty, the size of the procedure to be performed varies from person to person. Operations called minor or major revisions should be performed.

In the limited procedures called minor revision, the patient is satisfied with his/her nose but minor touches are required such as filing down a small nasal hump in the nasal dorsum or filling of a collapsed minimal area reflected to the appearance of the patient.

However, if there are obvious deformities after the previous rhinoplasty surgery, then, major revision is required. That is to say, if your nose is much better than before but there are small problems, small touches can be made on them. If there are obvious deformities, a complete revision rhinoplasty may be needed.

How many hours does revision rhinoplasty last?

Revision rhinoplasty is an aesthetic operation that is sensitively performed, in which the procedures to be performed are re-evaluated to the finest detail, the errors are corrected, sometimes minor touches and sometimes serious corrections are made since an operated nose is re-operated.

Therefore, these are more challenging and long-lasting procedures compared to a rhinoplasty surgery performed for the first time. Minor revisions generally last for 1-1,5 hours whereas major revisions last for 3-5 hours depending on the procedure to be performed.

Which techniques are used in revision rhinoplasty?

Revision rhinoplasty are generally performed with open technique if the first surgery was performed with open technique. If the first surgery was performed with a closed technique, it can be performed with an open or closed technique according to the needs of the patient and the level of revision.

What are the conditions requiring revision rhinoplasty?

Our patients can consult to us with many reasons to have revision rhinoplasty surgery. The most common reasons we encounter are;

• Nasal tip being too high, too upturned, or too low

• Nasal tip being too high, too upturned, or too low

• The nose having a squeezed look, called “pinched nose” because the nasal tip is overtightened and the side walls are excessively weakened,

• Significant asymmetries on both sides of the nose,

• The upper side of the nose remaining wide and flat since the nasal bones are not brought close enough after the nasal hump is removed

• Pollybeak appearance due to the insufficient removal of the nasal hump or saddle nose due to the excessive removal of the nasal hump

• A disturbing nasal hump existing on the nasal dorsum.

How is the recovery process after revision rhinoplasty?

The recovery process in the revision rhinoplasties may be slightly longer compared to your recovery process in your first surgery. Sometimes it may be more difficult to perform a surgical procedure since the anatomic structure of your nose has been changed.

Additionally, if cartilage is taken from the ear or rib to restructure the nose, the adaptation process of the cartilage in the new places may also cause the edema in the nose to take a little longer. There may be some bruising and swelling as in the first rhinoplasty but it generally disappears within 1 week.

Just as you experienced in your first aesthetic rhinoplasty surgery, your nose shape appears at the end of the 1st month and becomes more elegant in the 3rd month.

The final result is achieved up until 12 months after your revision rhinoplasty. To achieve a good result after revision rhinoplasty, close follow-up and strictly conforming to our post-surgery recommendations are critical for us to achieve a successful result.
